07 - Ceramic sphere

Ceramic sphere
Plaster sphere mould.
Clay slip ready for removal form mould.
Fired sphere being dipped in glaze.

Clay slip is poured into the plaster mould (See slide 2) until it is filled to the brim and left for several minutes. The slip is poured out to leave a skin of approximately 4 mm in contact with the mould. This is then left to harden further after which the two halves of the mould can be separated and the sphere left to dry completely.(See slide 3)

Fired once in the kiln, it is then dipped in a glaze solution, (See slide 4), dried and then returned to the kiln for a final firing. http://process.arts.ac.uk/content/press-moulded-ceramic-sphere-part-2
