The material is black iron annealed wire, 16 standard wire gauge, soft, and satisfying to bend between finger and thumb.

15 - Bent steel rod

A simple linear description of a cube; a drawing of its edges, this 8mm mild steel rod is bent 7 times at right angles, with heat using a high temperature torch.

08 - Steel cube

Six identical mild steel squares are gas welded along the edges and then ground square. The square hole reveals the thickness as being 20swg., or 0.9mm.

04 - Aluminium cube

Light sheet aluminium, in this case 22 gauge or 0.71mm thick is easily worked, and while impractical to solder, lends itself well to pop riveting as a fixing method.
