A simple linear description of a cube; a drawing of its edges, this 8mm mild steel rod is bent 7 times at right angles, with heat using a high temperature torch.

Six identical mild steel squares are gas welded along the edges and then ground square. The square hole reveals the thickness as being 20swg., or 0.9mm.

Light sheet aluminium, in this case 22 gauge or 0.71mm thick is easily worked, and while impractical to solder, lends itself well to pop riveting as a fixing method.
