Painting as a Document 25th April 2014: Clore Auditorium, Tate Britain,

London.Critic and writer Barry Schwabsky and artist Clare Woods selected paintings from Tate Britain's displays to discuss in relation to their own work, for an audience of UAL students, staff, researchers and artists from around the UK and the public.

Rumours that the ensuing critical uproar led to the police having to cordon off the Tate are, sadly, unfounded. You can view other Paint Club events from this link.

Thanks to everyone for the tremendous response to this event.

A reminder to all of you who have tickets, that it happens at Tate Britain (NOT Tate Modern), this coming Friday 7th March at 1 pm.

Are works of art, once acceded to a Museum collection, insulated from further contention and reinterpretation, just as they may be rescued from the vicariousness of the marketplace?

All the paintings selected for discussion by artist-guests Andrew Cranston, Dougal McKenzie and Ann-Marie James are on display in Tate Britain: view them before or after the talk.
