‘Can working in collaborative pairs aid the integration of isolated students with their peers?’
A summary of a small Teaching Development Project I undertook to look at student collaboration at Norwich University of the Arts. I am a year 2 tutor on BA illustration, undertaking a PGCE at UAL

Hi Matthew - sorry you couldn't be here! Here are a few questions/comments:
We loved the buttons - really illustrative! How do you quantify/recognise isolation? When you looked at the pairings, were any of them problematic - did you wish you hadn't 'gone random' in some cases?! Were there any language problems betweent he pairs? Did you consider any other approaches to a lecture when you were introducing the idea of working collaboratively? What were the indicators of less isolation, greater self-awareness etc.? Did you see any evidence of increased/deeper learning as well as solical/enjoyment benefits? Steve wants to know if anyone fell in love as a result of this intervention ;) Also - what time in the academic year was this done - had they already completed projects before? Sorry for the barrage of questions! It would have been great to have you in the room - we miss you!
