Bio
Emma Tarlo is a Professor of Anthropology at Goldsmiths, University of London. Her research focuses on dress, fashion and body politics in contexts of religious and cultural interaction in India and Britain. She is author of Clothing Matters: dress and identity in India (Chicago 1996) and Visibly Muslim: Fashion, Politics, Faith (Berg 2010) which focuses on British Muslim fashions. She recently co-edited a collective volume with Annelies Moors entitled Islamic Fashion and Anti-fashion: New Perspectives from Europe and North America (Berg 2013). Her current research, funded through a Leverhulme Trust Major Research Fellowship, focuses on the global trade in human hair.
