UAL Archives and Special Collections Online Catalogue

The archives and special collections of the University of the Arts London are composed of a rich and varied range of materials, some unique or rare, and examples of traditional and contemporary practice. There is a wonderful variety of formats including archives, printed books, artefacts, photographs, textiles, digital materials and art works. 

The purpose of the collections is to support teaching, learning and research in a variety of disciplines from graphic design to fashion taught accross the UAL colleges.

About the Catalogue

The catalogue contains information about all collections held by the Archives and Special Collections Centre and the six constituent colleges that form the University of the Arts London. It includes collections on book art, fine printing, printing education, private presses, product design, tailoring, typography and women's art. The artefacts contained within them are diverse, ranging from Nigerian headdresses to British studio pottery, from the letters of William Richard Lethaby (the founding principal of the now named Central Saint Martins College) to set design and annotated scripts for the films of Stanley Kubrick, illuminated manuscripts to an extensive collection of artists' multiples. Also represented are individuals' collections such as of Tom Eckersley, Thorold Dickinson, Walter Crane, Ian Hamilton Finlay, John Schlesinger and Phillip Knightley.
