This project now hopes to tap into the Mobile Device Management Project. MDM is a pilot initiative, giving UAL the ability to manage small to large scale deployments of iPads.Through the scheme, UAL's central IT services will have the ability to manage devices remotely. 7 iPADS - The college will now be funding for the ipad project, six in total so that will make seven with the DIAL two on loan for 6 months. NOTE: DIAL need to have process for loan equipment - CLTAD loan site maybe? |

CHALLENGE: As the digital landscape continues to expand the boundaries of HE into an "anytime, anywhere" experience, wireless networks and mobile devices present new ways for students to access, communicate and share information with peers, academics and technicians. Ultimately, mobile technologies: • support essential skill areas — digital literacy, complex communication, content curation, creativity and self-directed learning • can help students demonstrate their learning in many different ways and share that understanding with their peers, a broader audience and potentially the world • can encourage communities of practice by sharing resources, top tips, best student project across technical areas using the Dropbox app or a photo sharing app like Flickr More specifically, the iPads could be used to: record / document / communicate other workshop activities such as presentations, (quality assured) technical processes and end of year shows.
SOLUTION: The goal of this initiative is to: (a) create a meaningful learning experience for students who use the Technical Workshops (b) provide the impetus and resources for technicians to develop personally and explore alternative teaching methods (c) encourage and widen “digital literacy” participation. |

DIAL has a limited capacity to purchase equipment for projects and in this case, providing equipment would not demonstrate a sustainable solution to the problem(s) identified. DIAL can however support the project by: 1 providing time by paying cover for a member of staff to visit, reflect, analyse and feedback how 'UAL' is using mobile technology in workshops 2 providing one mobile device for a period of 6 months - at the end of which, the device would be returned to DIAL (together with a report of how it was used and outcomes) 3 supporting the 3D Technical workshop to develop a Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) model |
