Several wood stains applied to a turned softwood sphere.
The single application of each stain reveals the different effects produced on side and end grain.
Assorted, reclaimed hardwoods including mahogany, beech, ash, oak and ebony are glued randomly together and then turned on the lathe. See video.
Although technically a botanical hardwood, balsa is a commonly used model making material, due to its softness and ease of working.
