11 - Hardwood sphere

Hardwood sphere
Hardwoods glued into lathe blank.
Hardwood block sawn roughly to shape.
Hardwoods in roughly turned state.

Assorted, reclaimed hardwoods including mahogany, beech, ash, oak and ebony are glued randomly together and then turned on the lathe. See video.

The random joint lines between woods of differing type, colour and tone become arcs and circles, while gaps in the construction are filled with wood filler, which forms its own shapes. The end spigot gives a clue to the machining process.
