Draft programme of events and activities for Professional Online Identities project at CSM

A cross UAL collaboration project between, DIAL, SEE, Development & Learning , CLTAD and UAL Communities of Practice (supporting cross department and project collaboration at UAL)

Please see draft programme of events and activities of training and support for the Professional Online Identities project at CSM. The sessions below have been designed as a pilot for the The Centre for Performance programme staff and students at Central Saint Martins college of Art and Design. The programme is being designed/adapted in a specific context to meet the POI project objectives.

The project aims to identify and develop specific digital literacies/hard and soft skills (Presentation and Relational skills) in maintaining professional online identities with the aim of enhancing student/graduate employability and industry readiness.

The programme will create and adapt existing training to meet the needs of this agile developed programme, (we want to offer bespoke/new training and contexts currently not available to staff and students). We will be adding a section to the developing programme that highlights what training is currently available at UAL and how they can make the most of what there is e.g existing Learn IT training, CLTAD training and Lynda etc.

If you would like to contribute to this project please contact Chris Follows c.follows@arts.ac.uk

an introduction for students (Workshop 1)
FACILITATOR: Silvia Baumgart
PARTICIPANTS: The Centre for Performance programme students, the POI project team are all welcome to join the sessions.
BRIEF OVERVIEW:

As a student, you constantly create work, which is protected by copyright or design right. And you are also likely to use other people’s work, which are also protected by certain rights while you are researching and developing your projects. It is important that you know about these rights – especially if you promote your work online through social media.

This interactive workshop is facilitated by Silvia Baumgart, Own-it Programme Manager, and will cover

  • Basic concepts of copyright, design right, trade mark, confidentiality and patents
  • What to consider when sharing your work online and promoting yourself
  • What to consider if you use other people’s material in your own work

There is plenty of time for questions and you can also bring work or prepare questions – we will try to answer them.

These workshops are organised by Own-it for DIAL.

Creative Commons - sharing and promoting your work online (Workshop 2)

FACILITATOR: Silvia Baumgart
PARTICIPANTS: The Centre for Performance programme students, the POI project team are all welcome to join the sessions.
BRIEF OVERVIEW:

Creative Commons is sometimes misunderstood as providing some sort of alternative to copyright. In fact, the whole system is based on the principle that authors of creative work should keep control over their work. It is a simple to use and effective licensing system, which makes it easy to share work with others and promote yourself online.

Silvia Baumgart, Own-it Programme Manager, will explain

  • what Creative Commons is exactly
  • the various licenses that are available
  • how best to use CC for your own promotion
  • how to use other people’s work under a Creative Commons license
  • advantages and disadvantages of using Creative Commons licenses
  • common pitfalls

There will be time to answer your questions
