PAINT CLUB: UNIVERSITY OF THE ARTS LONDON RESEARCH NETWORK

Look Club is a research event in involving one painting, one critic and audience.

Paint Club is a research network open to all staff and research students at the UAL. Painting here is defined as an expanded field indexed to the histories and traditions of the medium. Our activities publicly explore and debate what it means to research as a painter within the context of contemporary art practice. Whilst the focus of our research is informed directly by practice these discussions also inform the teaching of painting within the UAL. We aim to organize a couple of events each academic year that respond to the concerns and interests of the membership and are looking to extend our network of affiliations with other institutions both in the UK and world-wide. http://paintclub.org.uk/

Look Club is a research event in involving one painting, one critic and audience. 176 Zabludowicz Collection has agreed to host the first Look Club event featuring the work of artist Phillip Allen in a conversation led by writer Martin Holman. A critical interpretation of one specific painting will unfold during the course of the evening as the assembled audience engages with the focus of an aesthetic encounter.
