Gravity Sketch user testing with Chelsea MAGDC students

Following on from our first introduction to the Gravity Sketch team by the Tate at the Tate digital show & tell event, the Gravity team have offered to come to UAL and work with our staff and students on testing the new app in development.

This workshop came at a good time for CCW digital LTE as we are starting to explore new 3D technologies through 3D printing and virtual reality Oculus Rift. Also really interesting to see the Gravity Skech app is now linked up to 3D printing service Shapeways, the quality of the 3D prints look brilliant.

The first session took place Nov 2015 at Chelsea:

The new cohort of MAGDC students were let loose on Gravity Sketch software to assess usability and also to creatively challenge themselves to think about the uses and expression of 3D virtual space and it’s relationship to new 3D printing opportunities.

Next week the students visit the company’s studio to try out the sketching environment with the virtual reality headset, Oculus Rift.

First quick experiments revealed a leaning towards fragmented environments with a sense of space extending both sides of the screen.
