The word is spreading and we've had lots of positive feedback but need to manage expectations
Need to be clear about what we are and doing: Give Get of the CCW Pop-Up Digital MakerSpace
We will send out updates to the main Pop-Up Group every Monday on what's happened and due to happen the coming week.
Generosity of students giving time, effort and even sharing their tech with the group is a fantastic surprise of this group
So far we have had the Oculus Rift development kit 2 (DK2) loaned to the Pop-Up crew by one of our student members from Camberwell. And another student is offering to share new tech they are getting to help them develop their use and understating of the tech in collaboration with the group, this being an holographic experimentation.
All students involved and contributing to the community in some way, creating resources, doing some research or supporting offering peer to peer support.
We are also contacting tech industry companies to road test new tech, will update on this as soon as we get some kit
Virtual Reality Group Meeting:
- New member Nick Shanks from Camberwell came along to the meeting and it was great to hear all about his work and the AR & robot Paka dragons company Nick works for.
- We also had Molly at Chelsea who has lots of VR experiences and is playing with Unity
- Alejandro who has loaned us his Rift and has experience of real engine and is keen to share his interest in 3D and the relationships between physical to virtual worlds.
- Semira would like to see how we can use VR in Game design and has a background in character animation, graduated from CSM (Semira is also keen to help us with events planning).
- Mika Suetake is new to VR and interested to find out more.
After hearing everyone's interests and background we thought it a good idea to create some profiles so we can all see who is who and what our interest and specialisms are. Other actions were:
- Post some IPR information especially as staff and students are looking to collaborate with tech industries more
- Familiarization & experimentation with the VR Technology
- Set up a Trello group -Unity board of basic example
- Plan May event – ‘VR Experiments’
New sub group of 3D printing group has be set up to 'Build a 3D printer'.
- Phases 1: Build a basic framework and moving parts, create the tech to move the printer and translate 3D designs. No materials applied at this stage just movement.
- Phases 2: Once we have a working and moving prototype we will explore different materials, chocolate, clay, plastic, recycled materials etc.
- Phases 3: Using the prototype as a proof of concept we will start to develop a number of possible alternative project proposals and ideas to explore in the future. Funding will be sort to make these happen.
