 Join CCW cross disciplinary peer supported interests groups, exploring & supporting emergent digital making with staff, students & alumni from Camberwell, Chelsea & Wimbledon Colleges of Arts in collaboration with arts sector, tech industries & MakerSpaces.

• Try: Arduino & other physical computing processes used in art & design
• Contribute: Get involved in digital making activities on site & in our international collaboration. Find out how to join the UAL/CCW peer supported network & get involved in digital making activities, groups & future projects.

Join CCW staff, students and partners from the CCW Pop Up Digital MakerSpace in exploring interactive technology together. We are delighted to be collaborating with Cyland MediaArtLab during CCW Digital Maker Week. Throughout the week we will  be working with International artist/makers in residence from Cyland MediaArtLab in St Petersburg, who will also be supporting our online collaboration.

The aim of the day is to co-produce an interactive installation in collaboration with Cyland MediaArtLab who will be joining on-site & online via live stream along with their other artists groups & associates from across the globe. We'll have support on hand throughout the week for those new to interactive tech such as Arduino.

Founded in 2007, Cyland MediaArtLab is a nonprofit dedicated to furthering the field of cyberart, with a focus on the correlation between art and tech. Cyland holds an annual international festival, Cyberfest. It also creates numerous exhibitions and sponsors education through programming.

Cyland Medialab will show two interactive projects at the CCW Digital Maker Week on May 19^th, 2016:

1.  Artist, Alexandra Dementieva, and programmer, Sergey Komarov, will present “Orbis Quartus” an interactive installation project the two are currently working on at CylandMediaArtLab.

Alexandra Dementieva is an active member of Cyland’ authors and team. Her interactive works have been shown around the globe – Belgium, Russia, France, Brazil, Mexico … Her works are included in the collections of MMOMA, Moscow, Migros Museum für Gegenwartskunst, Zurich and other notable collections. She taught at Open MediaArtLab, Moscow, and is frequently invited to be a visiting professor at National Studio of Contemporary Arts, France, School of Plastic and Visual Arts (ESAPV),

Belgium

Sergey Komarov is  Lead Sound Artist and Curator at Cyland. Sergey's programming innovation and expertise has enabled many past and present Cyland projects. He is the head of Cyland's Sound Archive. His work has expanded to Berlin, Japan, and recently, to New York. He currently lives and works in Kaluga, Russia.

Technology used: Microsoft Xbox Kinect 2, Max/MSP and FaceOSC.

2. Phillip Avetisov will demonstrate “Patterns of the Mind”, a project  by Ivan Govorkov and Daniil Frants.

As part of CYLAND’s main creative talent – Ivan Govorkov is active in CYBERFEST’s Berlin and St Petersburg based events. His work is included in collections of The Russian State Museum, The Hermitage Museum, Museum of History in Saint Petersburg and many other notable establishments. Since 1974 he has been a Professor of the Academy of Fine Arts in St.-Petersburg, Russia.

St Petersburg & New York

17 year old Daniil Frants is the CEO of Frants Innovators, Inc., a technology startup based in New York City. He developed the Live Time Closed Captioning System, for which he was named one of CE WEEK NYC’s 10 Under 20 Innovators to Watch, and featured on the Tonight Show segment Fallonventions. When he was younger, Frants collaborated with Cyland in organizing technology related workshops for children, which helped them explore robotics and new technologies. His work in collaboration with Cyland has been featured in a number of locations including The State Hermitage Museum in St Petersburg and the Mori Art Museum in Tokyo.

Cyland will provide the opportunity to communicate live with Professor Govorkov in St Petersburg and Mr. Frants in New York during project presentation .

Technology used: Hitachi Starboard Projector technology, 3D sculpture software, 3D printer.

In March 2016 CCW Digital were really please to host a Cyland performance and master class Subjectivisation of Sound by Alexey Grachev and Sergey Komarov took place on March 11th at
Chelsea College of Art Parade Ground (see more about this event here).

Alexey and Sergey are part of CYLAND and were visiting London as part of Convergence, a celebration of musical pioneers, visual artists and technologists.

About CCW Digital Maker Week

Event is organised by CCW Digital Learning, Teaching & Enhancement at University of the Arts London (UAL) supports interest led digital interdisciplinary arts projects across Camberwell, Chelsea & Wimbledon Colleges of Art (CCW). With support from the UAL Learning Teaching Exchange ‘Staff & Student Collaboration Fund’ and SUARTS.

CCW arts staff and students in collaboration with the tech industries and arts sector explore and critique digital making and emergent digital practice through regular interdisciplinary interest led group meet-ups and events. Specialist groups support and share unique perspectives of digital making in the arts and aim to foster a co-produced, participatory approach to public engagement and develop new research and perspectives on an enquiry led interdisciplinary curriculum.
