Session 1 The Objective Design Process

This session is designed to give you the skills to be able to constructively critique existing websites and use this knowledge to develop solutions of your own so that you can build a considered, planned and clear online identity.

Everyday we use many websites, some give us a mediocre experience and some can be incredibly rewarding. The session will explore how to test websites through some basic usability testing and objectively talking about websites - good and bad.

This will then be taken forward into planning and structuring your own website where we will explore what is appropriate for you as an individual and possible ways to achieve these goals.
DURATION: 2 Hours
NUMBERS: 20
PREVIOUS SESSIONS FEEDBACK:

Some session feedback from the students: Read more

"I found it useful to have concrete tools given to me to be able to analyse a website and pull the useful information out for me. It has made it easier for me to understand what i need to concentrate on for my own website and make sure the user can understand me and my work."

"Yes, the most important it outlined a criteria relevant to art students! Would prefer more examples of successful websites on next session, especially from practitioners."

"I found the process very useful as it taught me the questions I should be asking myself when designing my own website ad how to be sensitive to my audience's needs"

"Many thanks its great to have this as a resource and take some of the fear of life after uni!"

"Productive session, very engaging, feels like a good base point to continue on the other courses."

"The class was particularly well executed because the ideas were conveyed visually by looking at other websites and allowing us to see in practice what works and what doesn't. This is particularly important as I feel that as a designer I could easily identify with this and was not simply presented with an intimidating amount of coding which is difficult for me to understand."
