Cast aluminium sphere
Wooden pattern in sand moulding box.
Cast being removed from sand.
Cast showing runners and risers.
Cast being finished by hand.
Creating an object in separate components to be combined later can often help to overcome technical or production problems, see paper sphere, resin cube, while the assembly solution itself can further develop the objects function and express it’s material properties.
This sphere uses two identical casts, the lower hemisphere kept as it left the sand in the foundry, the upper displaying the materials ability to be worked.
The making processes included wood turning, metal casting, sawing, grinding, filing, drilling, polishing, stamping.
